Recycling paper, reduced washing and eco-friendly corporate attitudes. These are just some of the initiatives that the Hotel has implemented to do its part in terms of corporate social responsibility.
Caring for the environment has gone from being an academic concern to a dominant topic in the headlines, water cooler conversation and Internet discussion. Global warming, the overburdening of the natural world and the uncertain future of humanity are topics that demand immediate action.
At Rugendas, we've taken this sense of urgency to heart. As such, we've taken measures to help protect the environment. A ballot in the rooms allows guests to choose whether they want their sheets and towels replaced every day or at the end of their stay. The idea is to reduce the amount of washing done, thus saving water and electricity and avoiding the resulting pollution.
In addition, since this past October, all printed paper, newspapers and magazines that are longer used are deposited in a box from the San Jose Foundation, as part of the "Bota por mi vida" campaign. All this material is subsequently collected to be sold and recycled.
Lastly, part of Rugendas' corporate stationary is printed on paper that eschews contaminating agents such as elemental chlorine certain acids, and meets FSC and PEFC certifications. These standards ensure that the paper is made using pulp from wooded areas that will be reforested.
